Just as doing 'niraanjana' ( the flame waving ritual) to the sun is only the offering of his own light to him; just as making an offering of arghya to the moon with water that oozes out of the moon-stone is only to give back what belongs to the moon, and just making 'tharpana' - water-offering to the ocean is to return what belongs to it, -so is, O source of all Learning, this hymn is addressed to Thee composed of words that are already Thine."

Oh, mother mine,when shall i, who begs for knowledgebe able to drink, the nectar like water,flowing from your feet,mixed with reddish lac applied there?when shall that water attain,the goodness of saliva mixed with thambula, from the mouth of goddess of learning, which made one born as mute, into the king of poets?

You are leading light of the home of lord shiva, who destroyed the three cities,and so coming near you and worshipping at thine feet,are not for those with weak mind,who do not have control of their senses.and that is why perhaps,indra and other gods,stay outside your gates,and attain your sweet self,by practice of siddhis like anima.

If one chants this verse 108 times a day for 45 days, offering Tillannam (Ellu rice) and sugar it is believed that all injuries can be cured.
